Unit Profile

The Bayview Educational Centre is an integrated unit within Warrawong High School.

It caters for students in years 7 to 12 and is one of the largest support unit in the Illawarra with approximately 75 students, eight classes and 22 teachers and SLSO's.

A feature of the Support unit is that we have state of the art programs regularly updated, inclusive of all the KLA's, incorporating individual education plans for each student which are designed in conjunction with the parents, teachers and students. This is reviewed on a yearly basis.

Students have the opportunity to be involved in life skills excursions, permaculture, WOW programs, WACKI film making and external agencies, to enhance their education and transition to work.

Our teaching staff are highly qualified and many of our teachers have post graduate degrees.

Eligibility for placement in the Support Unit

Placement is made by a placement committee at District Office after testing by the school counsellor. The High School is then notified of the students to be enrolled. This testing normally occurs at Primary School but in special circumstances students can be tested at High School and placed into the Support Unit if testing supports this placement.

Parental permission is always needed prior to placement and a student may be withdrawn and placed into mainstream classes at any time if the parent so wishes.

Students eligible for the assisted school travel program will make application through the school, and a decision is made by ASTP.

For enquiries regarding eligibility and applications for access to transport, please contact your school principal.
